How long is
your next listen?
Turn a word count into an audiobook length estimate. Plan a commute, a reading draft or a week of listening.
Words to minutes, with the assumptions visible.
Divide the word count by your assumed words per minute to estimate the audio length. Divide that result by the playback speed to estimate how long you will listen. This calculator starts at 150 words per minute and normal 1× playback.
For example, 50,000 words ÷ 150 words per minute = about 333 minutes of audio, shown as 5 hours 34 minutes after rounding up. At 1.5× playback, listening takes about 222 minutes, shown as 3 hours 43 minutes after rounding up. The display rounds a partial minute up for planning.
A useful estimate before you commit to a long read.
A report, manuscript or set of study notes can fit into several short sessions. The calculator also shows how many 20-minute sessions the estimated listen takes. Changing playback speed changes your listening time; it does not rewrite the document or change the downloaded audio file.
For text-to-speech duration, the final voice, language, punctuation and pauses all matter. The calculator cannot predict those exactly. Word counting is based on letter and number groups; languages without word spaces can need a word count from a language-aware editor. For a precise result, measure the completed audio.
Your text stays with you.
The calculator runs in your browser. Pasting text does not upload it or generate speech. If you choose to make audio from that text, the draft moves into the uploader in this tab. Review it there, add your delivery email and choose the available narration settings before confirming a conversion.
